All funds have been expended for this program. Those who applied October 27 – November 18 have been notified by email whether they are eligible or not, and most have received their checks in the mail.
Due to the high demand for this program, there were not funds available to provide grants to those who applied after November 18, so those who applied November 19 – December 12 will not receive a grant from this program.

To date, CCS has approved 975 households to receive a total of $2,647,743 in Housing Assistance and expects to authorize the remaining $352,257 in funds later this week.

We have done a initial review of the first 1000 grant applications. Applications that were submitted in full and qualify will be notified no later than Monday afternoon of payment (if an email was provided). Our team has been reaching out by email (if provided) or by phone (if no email was provided) to applicants where additional documents and information were needed. Catholic Community Service is excited to be partnering with the City and Borough of Juneau to administer the CBJ COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant Program. The objective of the program is to provide financial support to people residing in the City and Borough of Juneau who have been financially harmed by COVID-19 and need assistance paying for mortgage, rent and utilities, including heating and fuel.
In order to apply you will need to:
- Complete the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant application and attest that your household income is $94,240 or less, and that you currently live in the residence listed on the application.
- Describe the financial hardship your household has experienced due to COVID-19 on the application
- Include proof of utility and/or housing expenses with your application. Examples include: a utility statement or bill, a copy of heating oil statement or bill, a copy of a cancelled rent check or rental agreement, or a statement from a mortgage holder

CBJ COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant Program FAQ
Q: What can I submit to prove what my expenses are?
A: The following all count as proof of expenses, and can be a scan in pdf or jpg or clear/good quality photos.
Utilities - a copy of your utility bill.
Rent - a copy of your rental agreement/lease, canceled rent check, rental receipt, or a letter from your landlord.
Mortgage - a copy of your mortgage statement.
Q: Is the $94,240 income limit before or after taxes?
A: It is adjusted income, like on your tax return.
Q: I haven’t been able to work due to an injury. Am I able to apply for this assistance?
A: Only those who have had a financial hardship due to COVID-19 are eligible for assistance. Unfortunately, any loss of income due to missed work for other reasons does not qualify you for this program.
Q: Am I eligible to for the CBJ CARES Act COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant if I received CCTHITA Cares Act assistance?
A: Applicants who received CCTHITA 2020 CARES Act Financial Assistance are still eligible for this program and welcome to apply.
Q: I have been able to work during the pandemic but have increase childcare costs due to virtual learning. Does this qualify as a financial hardship?
A: Yes, this qualifies. Increased household expenses such increased childcare costs due to COVID-19 closure of in-person learning are considered a financial hardship and qualify you for assistance.
Q: Do I need to submit more than one month of utility bills?
A: No, only one month is needed as we will make the assumption that your bill will be the same for each month.
Q: I don’t pay for electricity, heating, water or sewer, but I do have a bill for internet. Does internet count as a utility?
A: It depends.
*If you or any household member is using the internet to work from home, or is using internet for virtual learning due to closure of in-person learning, then internet is an eligible utility for your household.
*If you are using internet for recreation but not for work or school, then it is not an eligible utility.

On November 23 the CBJ Assembly passed Resolution 2925 CBJ COVID-19 Housing Assistance Grant program administered by Catholic Community Service which increased the maximum amount of rent/mortgage assistance from $1500 to $2500 per household. Utilities assistance remains capped at $500.
If you have already applied, you do not need to reapply. CBJ will be sending out supplemental payments to those who are eligible for additional housing assistance.
